Sam started her professional career at Macy’s in NYC and then moved to Pittsburgh to work for American Eagle Outfitters. While she loved the excitement of working in retail, she was never truly fulfilled at the end of the day. After having her first son and enjoying 5 months away from the office, she realized that if she was going to spend at least 40 hours/wk away from him, she needed to do work she was proud of.
Enter Thread! As soon as Sam read about B-Corps, she was hooked. The idea of working for a for-profit business with a triple bottom line was exactly what she was looking for. Sam joined Thread to test Ian’s idea of a D2C fabric shop. Thread quickly learned that customers are hungry for products that are both good for the environment and also the individuals working in the supply chain. They realized that the impact of Thread would be significantly larger if Thread could expand its customer base by selling finished goods rather than fabric. Now Sam is Head of Product and can’t wait to see Thread products out in the wild!

What are you known for professionally? What do you have a knack for?
Being blunt. Really blunt.
Also, I love planning. I know it sounds so boring but it is seriously my favorite part of my job. My strength is knowing the end goal and building a realistic plan to achieve it. When we hit a bump in the road, I find another way around. I refuse to accept excuses and push everyone I work to be solution oriented to keep the train moving. Fortunately, they know my heart is in the right place so my bluntness is forgiven!
What are you most passionate about professionally? What most excites you about your work & the contribution you can make?
My biggest passion is defining what “business for good” can truly mean. I go to work everyday with the goal of generating revenue for Thread by selling useful products customers will love. The motivation for this work is knowing how Thread will invest these profits. We are building a for profit business so that we can invest those profits back into the communities we work in from Haiti to Homewood. A dignified job can completely change someone’s life. It can be the difference between dinner on the table or not. It can be the reason a child can go to school or not. The more product we sell, the more dignified jobs we create. It’s that simple and it is why I look forward to going to work everyday.
What are you passionate about personally? What do you really enjoy? What can’t you stop talking about?
My son, Levi. He’s really cute, I can’t help it. I love to run almost as much as I love a great restaurant. I’m also obsessed with tap dancing even though I haven’t taken a class since I was 18. Retirement goals…
How do you want to be remembered?
A hard worker, a trustworthy friend, and a great mom.
